    After 3 terms of university, students can be feeling the pinch when it comes to the summer holidays. So summer is the perfect time to do some work experience, as well as build up your CV!     1. Follow The Tourists
    In the summer months, many tourists flock to certain areas of the UK from both this countryman abroad, and so there are plenty of jobs which will take advantage of this influx ofpeople. Tour guides, waiting staff and shop staff are needed as extra when the visitors arrive, making work in tourism-heavy areas relatively easy to come by. If you live near to any tourist attractions or areas of outstanding natural beauty then this is the area you should be concentrating on in order to maximise your chances of getting a decent summer wage.
     
    2. Waiting & Bar Work
    All towns and cities have bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants which need to be staffed, and as turnover tends to be high in these working environments, there’s often opportunity to find part- or full-time work as a barkeep or waiting staff. This type of work also tends to come with the added bonus of receiving tips, although each business will split this in different ways, so do check before making a decision.
     
    3. Festivals
    During the summer months there are literally hundreds of festivals held throughout the UK –some larger than others. Often, there’s opportunity to work for cash or a free ticket to the festival, which can help you to enjoy our summer without it being a constant drain on your wallet. Jobs include rubbish clearing and stage dismantling, manning food outlets or working behind the bar. A lot of people enjoy this seasonal work and make lifelong friends who are in the same situation, which can help with networking in the future.
     
    4. Odd Jobs & Gardening
    If you’ve got a practical streak and prefer to work alone, then advertising yourself as a handyman or gardener can bring in a good amount of summer cash. Weeding gardens,planting, mowing lawns and trimming hedges are all essential in the warmer months, and many people are unwilling or unable to manage their outdoor space alone. You may be surprised at what people will pay for – if you can put up a shelf or make simple repairs, you could find that this is a good (if a little inconsistent) way to make extra cash.

    Those who are good with children or animals can make a good summer wage from babysitting or pet sitting during the school holidays. This kind of work often begins with friends and acquaintances, and will eventually grow with word of mouth. Put yourself out there on social media and stick notices in local ads to take advantage of the need in your area. You could even be asked to house-sit while people go on holiday – this is a great way to save money on accommodation costs if you can ensure it’s consistent.
     
    6. Freelance Writing & Design
    Sites like People Per Hour and Five are great if you want flexibility and to work from home.A skill like web development, writing, logo design or translating services can be bought by those who don’t want to or can’t do it themselves, making it lucrative work if you can market your skills properly. Take time to check out what others are offering and work out what you can/would be willing to do for the same price. You’ll need a computer and a consistent internet connection to make this work, but ultimately it’s you who chooses how much you work and for what reward.
     
    7. Sell Unwanted Goods
    If you’ve got a lot of stuff, then it could be time to think about having a clear out. It’s amazing what other people will buy, but finding the right place to sell certain things and organising payment and delivery/collection can take up a lot of time. This type of summer earning is really only worth it if you have a decent amount of things to sell, so why not ask friends and family if there’s anything you’d like to sell for them for a cut of the profits? This could keep you busy all summer and you may be surprised at how much you could earn.What’s more, you’ll have decluttered in the process.  
     
    8. Summer Camps
    Summer camps and summer schools are big business, and almost every town will have something going on for kids in the area while the schools are shut. Play assistants, sports coaches and general support staff are often needed, although it’s likely you’ll need a DBS check to prove your eligibility to work with children and/or vulnerable adults. This can cost,so weigh up the pros and cons if you don’t yet have a valid check. Some employers may pay for this for you upon a successful interview.

    There are a huge amount of offices in the UK, most of which are often in need of a temp during busy periods to help with admin, data entry or simply filing paperwork. Although temp office work can be a little mundane, it can pay well and will give you an insight into different industries and ways of working.     Although it may seem like a last resort sort of job, getting involved with fruit/veg picking and crop management can be a great way to spend the summer. Jobs like this are physically tough, but pay well, and you could be placed with a team of pickers and moved from farm to farm as and when you are needed. Accommodation is sometimes included, so this type of work is great for those who want to save some money on living costs whilst still making a bit of cash for their pockets. You’ll meet new people, get fit, and get to spend your summer outdoors. Fans of a bit of manual labour say you sleep much better after a hard day’s work,so don’t rule out farm work if you’re stuck for ideas – the benefits can outweigh the downsides.
